George M. Ramirez, President & CEO, MFR Securities, Inc.
Mr. Ramirez has been President and CEO of MFR Securities since 1998. Mr. Ramirez has more than 30 years of financial management experience in commercial and investment banking, the securities industry and high technology manufacturing. Prior to joining MFR, Mr. Ramirez was Managing Director of Garban LLC from 1994 to 1997, responsible for the Emerging Markets Group. He was also President of Garban Argentina. Prior to joining Garban, Mr. Ramirez was a principal of Coventry Capital, a private partnership providing investment banking advisory work to governments in Latin America and multinational corporations doing business in Latin America. From 1985 to 1990, Mr. Ramirez was principal and CFO of Irtronics Systems, Inc., a Connecticut company engaged in the development and manufacturing of infrared instrumentation. From 1978 to 1990, he developed and managed the Latin American Group of Chemco International Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chemical Bank. Mr. Ramirez attended the Lubin School of Business of Pace University after receiving his degree in Mathematics in Colombia.
Maria Fiorini Ramirez, President and Founder, MFR, Inc.
Maria Fiorini Ramirez is President & CEO of Maria Fiorini Ramirez, Inc., an independent global economic and financial consulting firm formed in August, 1992. Prior to forming her consulting firm, Mrs. Ramirez founded in 1990 Maria Ramirez Capital Consultants, Inc., a joint venture with John Hancock Freedom Securities Corporation. Before that, Mrs. Ramirez was Managing Director and Money Market Economist at Drexel Burnham Lambert from 1984 to 1990. Mrs. Ramirez was also Senior Vice President and Senior Money Market Economist at Becker Paribas and First Vice President and Senior Money Market economist at Merrill Lynch from 1973 to 1983.
Mrs. Ramirez is a frequent speaker at U.S. and international forums and is a regular guest on numerous television and radio networks, such as CNN, CNBC, ABC, Fox Business News, Bloomberg Financial News, PBS, CBS, and TV Tokyo. She is also a regular contributor to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan’s leading financial publication.
Mrs. Ramirez has a BA in Business Administration and Economics from Pace University. Mrs. Ramirez is a member of the Board of Directors of Security Mutual Life and Metropolitan Commercial Bank. She is also a member of the Investment Policy Committee of Edward Jones & Co. Maria has utilized her economic and financial expertise to a great advantage as director of a diverse group of public and private corporations as well as not-for-profit organizations, some of which she continues to serve as a Board member.
Clifford C. Swint, Executive Vice President, Capital Markets
Mr. Swint is Executive Vice President Capital Markets of MFR Securities, Inc and is more than a 20 year veteran of Wall Street. Prior to arriving at MFR, Cliff was Head of Investment Banking and Capital Markets at Blaylock Robert Van. In addition to managing the team, Mr. Swint directly managed the firm’s relationships with many of its largest clients in the utility, telecom/media and financial sectors including being entrusted by three of his clients with large debt book-running mandates. Prior to Blaylock, Mr. Swint was employed by RBC Capital Markets, PaineWebber and Kidder, Peabody structuring equity-linked derivative transactions for U.S. and Canadian companies and was personally awarded and continues to own a patent on a form of mandatorily convertible specially designed to merit substantial rating agency equity credit. Prior to his equity derivatives experience Mr. Swint was an Associate in the Private Placement Group of Prudential Insurance. Prior to his Wall Street career, Mr. Swint was a design engineer for Westinghouse Defense and has worked on projects such as the fire control radar systems for the B1 Bomber and F-16 Fighter as well as various classified space-based systems. Mr. Swint holds a MBA from Harvard Business School, a MS Computer Science degree from The Johns Hopkins University and a BS Mechanical Engineering degree from Lafayette College.
Colin McDonald, Managing Director, Fixed Income Sales
Mr. McDonald joined MFR in June 2007 as Senior Vice President. Born in Liverpool, UK, Colin has spent his entire business career in the Global Capital Markets beginning as a trainee FX trader at Bank of America in London in 1970. His career has taken him throughout Europe and Asia but much of it has been spent in the US, Prior to joining MFR, he was a senior sales executive at Dresdner Bank (2004-2007) and ING (1995-2004) Mr. McDonald has also served as treasurer of Computerland Corporation (Franchisor) and American President Companies (Transportation and Logistics) and as cash manager at Natomas Company (Oil and Gas). He holds series 7, 63, and 24 licenses. Mr. McDonald attended the Liverpool College of Commerce and received his B.A. in Economic History.
Thomas Graffeo, Senior Vice President, California Office Branch Manager
Graffeo joined MFR Securities in August 2005, as Senior Vice President
responsible for the management of the California office. Mr. Graffeo has more
than 40 years experience in the sales and trading of both taxable and tax free
fixed income securities with institutional clients. He began his career in New York as a trainee
in the institutional trading and sales department of Eastman Dillon, Union
Securities, and its predecessor firms (Blyth Eastman Dillon, Paine Webber), as
a U.S. government and federal agency bond trader, and then as a corporate bond
trader. Eventually Mr. Graffeo was transferred to the San Francisco office as
west coast fixed-income sales manager. His responsibilities included
government, agency, corporate bonds and money market instruments. Subsequently,
Mr. Graffeo was associated with Shearson Loeb Rhoades, Prudential Bache Sec.,
and for fifteen years, with Redwood
Securities Group, Inc. as sales and trading manager. Mr. Graffeo holds a
Bachelor of Science (business) degree from the University of San Francisco;
professionally has Series 7, 8, 63, and 24 (principal) licenses.
Josh Avigael, Structured Products Specialist, Texas Office
Mr. Avigael joined MFR in December 2010, he has been involved in the analysis and
trading of mortgage-backed and asset-backed securities since 1997. Prior to
joining MFR Securities, Josh served as Director of Fixed Income for Sunbelt
Securities. His responsibilities included trading MBS, CMBS, ABS, CMO’s, while
directing the overall strategy and focus for Sunbelt’s institutional
fixed-income sales team. The institutional client base consisted mainly of
hedge funds and mid-sized pension fund managers who focused on the agency
mortgage specified pool market, the non-agency CMO market and the agency CMO
derivatives space (more specifically: IO’s, Inverse Floaters and Inverse IO’s).
Before joining Sunbelt, Josh was a Senior Portfolio Manager at Smith, Graham
and Company, while also functioning as the firm’s securitized product
specialist and trader. In this capacity, he was responsible for strategy and
implementation of sector and sub-sector allocation throughout all of Smith
Graham’s institutional fixed income portfolios for agency and non-agency CMO’s,
MBS pools, as well as all CMBS and ABS. During this time, Josh developed
several portfolio risk monitoring and reporting tools which continue to be used
presently, along with a CMBS credit scoring system which analyzed deals at the
loan level. Josh began his career in the Franklin Templeton Management Training
Program and was hired as Franklin’s sole ABS/CMBS analyst shortly thereafter,
eventually becoming a portfolio manager with the Franklin Templeton taxable
Monique Tommaro, Vice President, Head of Operations
Ms. Tommaro has been with MFR Securities, Inc. since 1999. Monique has over 20 years of experience in the equity and fixed income markets. Prior to joining MFR, Ms. Tommaro was an Associate Director of Scotia Capital Markets (USA) Inc, as an Institutional Yankee and non-dollar salesperson. She was responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships by focusing on credit research and trade ideas. Prior to Scotia, Ms. Tommaro was a buy-side equity trader for a Neuberger & Berman Pension Management Group. Ms. Tommaro received her BA in Economics from Fordham University.
